One you have installed or have had installed 3M di-noc film, it is important to take care of it properly to ensure that it does not lift off or become damaged. There is nothing worse than carbon fiber vinyl that is dirty or scratched up. This is why proper cleaning techniques need to be used whenever you are washing or maintaining the application area. The following are tips for proper cleaning of carbon fiber film:

  • Use the Proper Cleaning Fluid – You never want to use any harsh chemicals when cleaning your 3M di-noc film. As soon as you see any dirt or debris on it, wash it with a mild soap like dishwashing detergent or car wash detergent. Never use paint thinner or any other type of solvent as this can damage the vinyl film and can remove the appearance of the carbon fiber pattern. Once this has been used, the film must be replaced because it is rendered unstable.
  • Use Proper Sponges and Cleaning Cloths – Just as in the cleaning fluid, it is vital to use the proper sponges and cleaning cloths. Any sponge must not have an abrasive surface because this can scratch the film. Also, you do not want to use steel wool or any other type of material that can scratch up the film. A good rule of thumb is that if it is not safe for your vehicle’s paint job, then it is not safe to use on the vinyl either. Clean the film with the mild detergent and use a soft sponge to do so.
  • Rinse the Area Completely – In order to keep the vinyl bright and looking like new, you should always rinse off the area completely before drying it. The film can get a hazy overtone to it if the soap is not thoroughly rinsed off of it. Never use a power washer or rinse with a power washer as this can cause lifting of the edges of the film.
  • Dry Thoroughly – After rinsing, you want to make sure that you dry the area completely so that there is not water spots left behind. Use a soft cloth or chamois to get the 3M di-noc films completely spot free. It is never a good idea to use any type of wax on this material as it does not shine it or offer any type of benefits. If you want a glossy look then you should have installed the gloss form of carbon fiber and not the matte finish.

Anytime you have installed 3M di-noc carbon fiber films, you need to take proper care of it so that it maintains its good look and lasts throughout the guarantee period of five years outdoors and ten years indoors. Never use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners or sponges when washing the film. Always rinse and dry the vinyl completely in order to keep it free from films or water spots that can be visually detraction from the carbon fiber print.
